Violet Hill  // Competition Entry

Piazza Galena is at the crux of many exchanges in the city; social, directional, infrastructural, etc. The primary goal of this proposal was not to occupy the site with a building and program solely for performances, exhibitions, etc. , but to capitalize on the broader urban opportunity of the site. As the poetry hall stands at a major crossroads,  it utilizes concrete's compressive strengths and burrows underground. Leaving a remediated ground plane unrestricted, the poetry hall becomes multi-faceted - not only serving as a destination for different types of performances and contemplations of the arts, but also an urban platform for infrastructural exchange, social exchange and larger cultural activities of Rome
